Agenda

Bihar's economy is predominantly dependent on agriculture, which provides employment to more than half of the state's workforce, surpassing the national average. The rural population makes up the majority of Bihar's inhabitants, and most landholdings are small and marginal. Despite this, farming households have an average income lower than the national average, making it difficult for them to make ends meet. Bihar's three distinct agro-climatic zones present ample opportunities for agricultural diversification. However, recurrent floods and droughts caused by climate change have made it unpredictable and challenging for smallholder farmers to sustain their livelihoods.
